September 9th is Teddy Bear Day

Today is Teddy Bear Day, so I thought we’d celebrate with a few of my favorite teddy-themed read-alouds.

Of course, Corduroy by Don Freeman is our most obvious choice.  If you haven’t shared this one with the kids in your life, here’s a reminder.  Every kid needs this one in his/her bedtime story collection.  Add this to your next birthday/Christmas list.

Then I had to once again pull out MY own childhood favorite, I’ll Protect You From the Jungle Beast by Margaret G. Alexander.  A boy’s teddy bear grows and grows and GROWS with the turn of the page until it’s big enough to carry AND PROTECT the boy.  It’s back out in print again for our younger generation to enjoy!

Another one of my all-time favorites is Ira Sleeps Over by Bernard Waber.  Great story–this one tells the story of Ira who has been invited to a friend’s house for a sleepover.  But will Ira be able to sleep without his favorite teddy bear?  Another must for every kid’s bedtime story collection.

If you haven’t had the joy of reading these great ones, check them out.  Oh, so many books, so little time. . .(sigh)
