An Extraordinary Egg

Spring has arrived!  I thought I’d share a few spring-y ideas including this great read aloud: An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni

When three frogs discover a “pebble” that suddenly hatches, they quickly assume it’s a chicken.  This chick is extraordinary–grunts, walks on four legs, and is a remarkable swimmer.

I’ve used this story as a springboard to discuss with children prior knowledge and drawing conclusions.

It’s a humorous look at what can happen based on our assumptions.
