Love is in the Air

It’s time to pull out some of my favorite February picks from the bookshelf and nothing says February like LOVE, LOVE, LOVE–Here’s a cute one to kick things off:

Love Bugs by David A. Carter looks like a huge foiled Valentine card, but it’s actually a fun read aloud.

Though I don’t normally care for too many pop-up books (not very classroom friendly) I do enjoy this one.

Teaching Idea:  After reading, allow kids to create their own “love bugs.”  Before sharing their bugs, have the students write a descriptive paragraph about their love bug creations.

Display all the love bugs on a wall or bulletin board in the classroom and read the descriptions.

–Were kids able to match the bug creations to its description?  Lead a discussion on how to improve descriptive writing.
