Turkey Talk 2

Yesterday I shared a fun writing activity for teaching persuasive paragraphs.  Here are a few more read-alouds to go along with that activity.

A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa BatemanA town holds a special art contest to catch a turkey for its Thanksgiving feast.  Pete, the sought-after turkey, outsmarts them–taking off with an oatmeal sculpted turkey for his prize.

‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey–If you haven’t read this one, you must!  Using the Clement Moore poem, the book shares the story of eight turkeys, Farmer Mack Nugget, and a group of compassionate kids.

Turk and Runt: A Thanksgiving Comedy by Lisa Wheeler–The turkeys on the farm are convinced that every November one of them will be chosen for a special purpose–like performing in a ballet or playing on a football team–Runt, however, has figure out why people are really choosing the turkeys.  Will anyone listen to Runt and his warnings?   Kids laugh at these turkeys!
